Girona victorious at the Bernabeu

A shocking 2-1 win over Real Madrid for the Catalan team through second-half goals from Stuani and Portu

Girona produced the biggest surprise of the round in LaLiga after beating Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon. The hosts were on a 5-match winning streak and after a first-half goal by Casemiro, it looked like it is going to be another protocol win for the Blancos. A second-half turnaround, however, saw an inspired Girona dominate possession and score twice. The first, a converted penalty by goalscorer Christian Stuani and the second, a close-range strike by Portu. Real Madrid applied pressure in the final minutes but didn’t manage to get anything from the game despite chances created by substitutes Vinicius and Bale. To add insult to injury, Blancos captain Sergio Ramos was sent off for a second yellow card. The Catalan team gets a shock win and completes a double over Real Madrid after defeating them at Montilivi earlier in the season.

Girona wins their first game since November while Real Madrid drops points and the gap with leaders Barca gets wider.
