Leganes 2:2 Eibar, a game of two halves

Two second-half goals by En-Nesyri cancel out the visitors lead in an exciting mid-table LaLiga clash. Leganes now unbeaten at home in 8 games.

Mauricio Pellegrino, Leganes manager: “I’m pleased with the team’s reaction. En-Nesyri has a bright future.”

After a controversial loss away at Barcelona last week, Leganes was looking to bounce back against visitors Eibar. The Basques, however, were traditionally a tough opponent for the Madrid side and had won the match between the two teams at Irupua earlier in the season.

The visitors opened the scoring through a looping header from Kike Garcia in the 30th minute. They doubled their lead just five minutes later when Joan Jordan found the net from close range. Leganes managed to get a goal back right at the start of the second half. Youssef En-Nesyri drove a powerful low strike into the bottom right corner. The Moroccan international added to his tally after a towering header in the 67th minute and Butarque erupted in joy. The home team could have completed a full come-back but lacked sharpness in the final minutes of the match. 2-2

In the next round, Leganes travels to Vallecas for a local derby against Rayo with just 3 points separating the two teams. Eibar remains 10th with just 5 points off European spots. The Basque side hosts Girona next week.
